Baxi Group, one of Europe's biggest manufacturers and distributors of heating systems, is investing in a new production facility for solar collectors in Spain. The new production line will be installed in Fabrigas, an existing Baxi Group factory near Barcelona.

Production is planned to start in December 2009. The new line will have a total capacity of 300.000 m2 and initially, the products will be sold in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, UK, Ireland and Belgium.

The range will include solar collectors for all existing solar thermal packages, from domestic hot water systems to other niche applications such as solar heating and solar cooling.

"This strategic decision is reinforcing our position as a leader in the renewables and new low carbon technologies arena,” said Martyn Coffey, Baxi Group CEO. "In 2008 the Group invested in a New Technologies Centre in Preston (UK) which focuses on research and development of heating products for the future. These include the development of micro-CHP (combined heat and power), in which Baxi Group is leading the way in its introduction across Europe.”
